THE VILLAGES JAZZ WORKSHOP

The Villages Jazz Workshop was founded as just that, a workshop, where people

can learn about playing various styles of jazz. It’s a definite learning experience

for all.  Even if you’ve never played jazz or consider yourself a novice –

all are welcome!

it’s a place for people who aren’t necessarily steeped in jazz playing and want

to learn more about it. Accordingly, the group is primarily a rehearsal

band, though we also give a performance or two during the year.

Importantly, all are welcome. Except for the rhythm section, we do not

constrain the instrumentation to the standard eight brass and five woodwind player configuration, so our size varies somewhat from week to week. While we

do suggest a reasonable comfort level on your instrument and some degree

of sight-reading ability, we don’t care at all how much jazz experience you may

or may not have. Just come and join in the fun!

BANDS OF THE VILLAGES

Welcome to the website of the Bands of the Villages (BOTV). The BOTV is an

umbrella organization which includes a variety of concert bands, musical groups,

and instrumental ensembles.

    • All of the directors and participating musicians are volunteers and reside in

    the Villages.

    • The musicians, both amateur and professional, enjoy playing music together,

rehearsing routinely, and performing throughout the year in a variety of

    locations.

    • Potential members are welcomed to contact the directors of the different

bands, groups, or ensembles for possible placement.

    • The major purpose listed in the BOTV bylaws is to provide cultural benefits

and musical entertainment for the community through concerts, festivals,

    parades, and other events.

    • The business of the organization is managed by a Board comprising the

music directors and representatives from each of the approved concert

    bands, groups, or ensembles.

The BOTV is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit corporation with a significant portion of performance proceeds given to charitable programs including those involved

with music education, senior health, and military families.

The Villages Concert Band

is active in the area, supporting groups and organizations with the

funds from all concerts.

Jean Butler, the conductor

of The Villages Concert

Band has built a great musical organization here

in The Villages that approaches every playing opportunity with tremendous professionalism. Interested

Attendance Policy for playing a Concert

As we continue grow

in quality of performance

and quantity of members

it is imperative to have full attendance at rehearsals.

We all know that there are very good reasons why people are not able to attend every rehearsal

and those reasons are respected; however, the following guidelines have been established to insure the highest level of performance that we

can possibly achieve.
