The Villages Jazz Orchestra (VJO) is a welcoming jazz ensemble where musicians of all experience levels can learn, play, and have fun exploring the many styles of jazz—including swing, latin, shuffle, rock, and more.
Whether you’ve never played jazz before, consider yourself a novice, or are an experienced jazz musician, the VJO provides an encouraging environment to develop your skills, build confidence, and discover what makes jazz so much fun to play. We’re especially interested in welcoming musicians who may not have had much experience with jazz but would like to learn more about the style, language, and techniques of jazz performance.
The VJO performs several times throughout the year, including opening the annual Villages Jazz Festival at the Savannah Center.
Except for the rhythm section, we don’t limit the ensemble to a traditional jazz band instrumentation of eight brass and five saxophones. As a result, our size and instrumentation may vary from week to week.
We ask that members have a reasonable level of comfort on their instrument and some ability to sight-read music. Most importantly, bring your enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a love of music.
Come join the VJO and be part of the fun!
